One of the biggest ethical issues our generation has to deal with is the legalization of same sex marriage. Our generation of young adults are very accepting of this idea and do not find anything wrong with it. Now, this isn’t your typical “same sex” blog post, in fact it really isn’t too much about the legalization of same sex marriage but more so of accepting of same sex couples.
So let’s talk about it. We all know people who have same sex partners and they are very happy, so why can’t we be happy for them? If we scratch away at the surface we’ll realize that under the flesh we all look the same. We all want the same thing in life, and that’s happiness and love. I don’t know one person who doesn’t want to be loved. The love I speak of doesn’t have to come from another human, some people really love their pets, their job, or even their car. So why is it a problem for two people of the same sex to love one another?
Not trying is ignorant not understanding is a lack of knowledge. Sometimes we fear what we don’t understand and we expect answers to every question. Same sex couples aren’t poison to our society. There are kids, young adults, and elders out there right now afraid to admit they like someone of the same sex. They fear the judgment they will receive from their peers, and their family. These same people are the ones that go around sneaking to do things because they are too afraid to embrace who they are. Simply because some people will not accept them.
At the end of the day we just want to be accepted. They are afraid of the names they will hear, or the whispers they will hear when they walk pass. No one should live in fear or have to pretend to be someone they are not. At the end of the day if someone else’s actions don’t harm you, I don’t think we should get involved. If you see two people of the same sex happy with one another, be happy for them. It takes a brave person to embrace who they are especially when those actions aren’t accepted by all. Love is love. Happiness is happiness. Call it what it is, and not who is doing it.
The idea that some lives matter less is the root of all that is wrong with the world!
